Atri Rushi
India is rich in its Vedic heritage with the Rushi Parampara. There are famous stories about saptharushi and their contribution to Sanathana Dharma. There was no religion in ancient Indian history; just Sanathan Dharma was followed by people of all races and classes. As a result, people started following other religions and Sanathan Dharma became the Hindu religion. Hinduism is not a religion. It is only Dharma. There are a number of Vedic sages who contributed to uplifting and improving Dharma, including Saptharushi, who were prominent sages during the Vedic period. To this day, their contribution to Sanathan Dharma remains profound and honorable. Atri Maharshi is one such legend Rishi who originated from the tongue of Lord Brahma and propagated all Narasimha mantras. He also envisioned several hymns in the Rig Veda. He married Anasuya Devi They got 4 children out of them 3 are sons and one is a daughter. With the blessings of Lord Shiva, Durvasa Rishi was born known as Krishnagiri. With the blessings of the Lord, Brahma Chandra was conceived and called Chandraatri. With the blessings of Lord Vishnu, Swami Dattatreya was born and their daughter is Madhumathi. There are a few stories regarding the birth of sons. On one side with the penance of Atri Rishi Brahma Vishnu and Shiva appeared and were blessed to have sons. His wife Anasuya Mata was blessed by Lord Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva with 3 sons Lakshmi, Saraswati, and Parvati, whose chastity Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva tested. In reality, 3 sons are born with the blessings of Lord Brahma, Vishnu, and Rudra, respectively. After the birth of Chandra, a distinct dynasty emerged the Lunar dynasty. The dynasty continued with Atri-Chandra-Buddha-Pururuva.
Atri is one of the sages in Saptha rishi Mandal. In Rigveda fifth Mandal is said to be Atrimandal. During both Ramayan and Mahabharat, he lived. Atri and Anasuya Mata performed penance and brought the river Ganga to earth in the South. While Rama was in exile with Sita they met Atri and Anasuya Mata. At this young age, they were wandering through the forest enjoying their marriage. Atri Rishi saw their lifestyle and had his wife Anasuya Devi explain Sri Vidya to Sowbhagya for a happy marriage. Anasuya Mata obeyed Atri Rushihi’s orders and took Sita Mata to her hermitage, called Chitrakut. When Anasuya Mata was explaining the Sri Vidya of Sowbhagya Ashtottaram to Sita Devi, Rama called her to move forward because the sun was about to rise. She took permission from Anasuya Mata and accompanied Rama. Thereafter Rama and Sita never lived happily and no one stayed in Ayodhya. Today we are struggling to build the Rama temple in Ayodhya. This may be one of the reasons they faced many obstacles. If Sita completely listened to Sowbhagya Vidya she might have overcome obstacles in her married life.
Astri Rushi learned what their future held and tried to help them but they didn’t understand the importance of Vidya in their lives. Atri is known as Brahmarshi. Atri Samhita and Smriti are his legal works. Rishis are classified as Brahmarishis-born from Brahma’s mind. Brahmarshi-born Devarshi, Rajarshi-born Devarshi, to rule the kingdom as the Raja, Shatarshi-making Shastras like Shusrutha, and Kandarshi-propagating Karmakanda like Jamini. Vedas were taught and revealed to rishis by Vedvyas rishi. He revealed Rigveda to Paila, Yajurveda to Vaishanpayana, Samaveda to Jamini, Atharveda to Samanta and Ithihasa, and Puran to Sutharishi. Atri rishi contributed to fields of Medicine like Ayurveda and Astrology. He created a brand-new path in ayurvedic medicine with many effective methods of promoting overall health for all ailments. The Rig Veda is generally considered to be the father of all Vedas. Even today Vaishnav culture follows mantras and Pooja propagated by Atri rishi.
